Fences that incorporate a combination of bricks and wood are a popular “hybrid” fence type, which brings the permanence and strength of a brick fence with the flexibility and warmth of a wood fence. Builders will commonly select this combination for its aesthetic appeal, as well as the ability to create a unique design beyond what a wood fence can achieve. In terms of the various styles of wood fences, you’ll find a wide range, including the classic spaced picket fence, rustic split rail fence, modern horizontal slat fence, and fully enclosed styles like shadowbox, board on board, and stockade. Common Design Styles
Brick Pillars with Wood Panels: In this style, common brick pillars are used as supports, and wooden panels are placed in between them, either horizontally or vertically.
Brick Base (Half Wall) with Wood Topper: In this style, a small half wall made from bricks is constructed, and wooden panels are placed on top to increase the height and provide more privacy.
Picture Frame Style: Wooden panels are enclosed by bricks from both sides, as well as from the bottom, to prevent them from touching the ground.
Horizontal Slat Hybrid: Wooden horizontal slats are placed in between pillars made from bricks or stones to create a modern look.
Board on Board: Wooden panels are arranged in such a way that one panel overlaps another to create a highly private style. This is one of the most popular styles of wooden fences in the DFW region. A decorative top and a rot board are also incorporated in this style, as seen in this picture, in which a 2×6 pressure-treated pine is placed in the ground to lift the cedar boards and save them from damage caused by animals, landscapers, etc.
